FIXTURES and RESULTS 2009/2010
MAY 2010
HEARTS SPL38 - 09/05/10
Celtic ended the season with an excellent 2-1 victory at Tynecastle today. Aiden McGeady, taunted by Racists chants from Hearts' bigoted fans throughout the match, set up Robbie Keane in the 23rd minute for Celtic's first goal with a pinpoint pass from midfield. Zaliukas levelled for Hearts before Zheng Zhi restored Celtic's lead with his first goal for the club. Neil Lennon has now won 8 league games in a row and must be given a chance to manage on a permanent basis. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.
APRIL 2010
HIBERNIAN SPL34 - 17/04/10
Morten
Rasmussen scored the winner in a 3-2 thriller against Hibs at Celtic
Park today. That makes it four league wins a row for manager Neil Lennon
and it's a result that keeps the pressure on a stumbling Rangers team
that is struggling to get over the finish line in the SPL. Keep the faith! Click
this to see the programme, ticket and other match stats.
.
MOTHERWELL SPL33 - 13/04/10
Celtic
beat Motherwell 2-1 in tonight's SPL match at Celtic Park thanks to a
double from 18 year old Josh Thompson. Click
this to see the programme, ticket and other match stats.
HIBERNIAN SPL32 - 04/04/10
Robbie
Keane scored from the penalty spot to take his tally to twelve since
he joined Celtic at the end of January. That's makes it twelve goals
in as many games for the Irish international who looks certain to return
South to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season. Lukasz Zaluska was
in the Celtic goal after Artur Boruc had to return home to Poland for
his fathers funeral and he made a couple of fine saves. Neil Lennon stayed
with the experience of Lee Naylor and Andy Hinkel in defence and, unlike
the previous manager, made only one substitution when he replaced the
Celtic goal scorer with Morten Rasmussen on 84 minutes. Ex-Celt Derek
Riordan hit the Celtic crossbar in the 69th minute with a half-volley
but the Celts held to maintain a 100% record for Neil Lennon as Celtic
manager. Click
this see the programme, ticket and match stats.
MARCH 2010
KILMARNOCK SPL31 - 27/03/10
Neil
Lennon's reign as Celtic manager got off to a winning start at Celtic
Park today. The new manager made a few changes to provide some of the
experience and aggression that was sadly lacking in Tony Mowbray's eleven
and it worked. Robbie Keane scored his eleventh goal since joining the
club and Scott Brown made it three on his return from the dodgy suspension
he recieved at Ibrox from today's referee McDonald. A bronze plaque was
unveiled outside the Main Stand in honour of Celtic great Tommy Burns.
The bronze relief shows the three stages of Tommy's career with Celtic;
the sculpture is framed by the doors of St. Mary's Church in the Calton
and depicts the three stages of Tommy's career - young player, manager
in 1995 and as a coach before he tragically died of skin cancer. Click
this to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
ST MIRREN SPL30 - 24/03/10
A
lacklustre Celtic team were gubbed 4-0 at St Mirren Park in SPL30 on
Wednesday night. It was one of the worst performances from a Celtic team
in living memory and the next day manager Tony Mowbray was sacked by
the Celtic board. Click this to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
CELTIC FANZINES IN MARCH
Most of the Celtic fanzines had their new issues on sale at recent matches - Not the View Issue number 183, Alternative View Issue number 104, Welcome to Paradise Issue number 13, More than 90 Mins Issue number 61 and The Celt Easter Issue number 119.
ST JOHNSTONE SPL29 - 20/03/10
19
year old English centre-half Josh Thompson scored his first goal for Celtic
in today's SPL match against St Johnstone and Robbie Keane made it two
from the penalty spot with his ninth goal in as many games since joining
the club in January. The scoring was rounded off by second-half sub Georgios
Samaras with a shot across the Saints goalkeeper into the far corner of
the net. Rangers weren't playing so the ref had no reason to award any
dodgy penalties, disallow any perfectly good goals, send anyone off unfairly
or to let the Rangers' centre-half away with persistent fouling without
taking any action ... that will happen tomorrow in the League Cup Final
at Hampden. Click this to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
KILMARNOCK SCOTTISH CUP Q/F - 13/03/10
Despite
the efforts of the Scottish Establishment to make sure Celtic fail this
season they're still in the Scottish Cup thanks to a 3-0 win at Kilmarnock
today. Robbie Keane cleared the Rugby Park stands of the few Kilmarnock
fans that had bothered to turn up with a devastating second-half hat-trick.
The draw for the semi-final will be made on Monday. Click this to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
TOMMY BURNS CHARITY RACE NIGHT
The Celtic F.C. Supporters' Association are holding a Race Night in the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park on Friday March 26th; all proceeds will go to the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer charity. The final race of the night will be an Auction Race; the prize for the winner will be two executive seats for the match against Rangers, which will take place sometime after the League split. For full details and a ticket application please download this pdf file. Update: this event has been postponed until September 2010.
FEBRUARY 2010
ABERDEEN SPL25 - 13/02/10
Celtic
snatched a draw from the jaws of victory at Pittodrie Stadium today, allowing
Aberdeen to score twice in the last 15 minutes to get a 4-4 draw. Another
2 points thrown away as we try to catch Rangers. Click this to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
DUNFERMLINE SCOTTISH CUP - 07/02/10
Dutch
international left-back Edson Braafheid made his debut as Celtic progressed
to the next round of the Scottish Cup by beating Dunfermline at East End
Park today. Robbie Keane and Diomansy Kamara made their debut at Kilmarnock
in Tuesday's rearranged SPL match, today they each scored their first goal
for the Club. Kamara opened the scoring with an unstoppable shot and keane
wrapped it up from the penalty spot in a 4-2 win. Click this to see a video
clip of Keano's first goal for Celtic and the programme,
ticket and match stats.
JANUARY 2010
HAMILTON SPL23 - 30/01/10
Another
game, another debut. This time it was centre-half Jos Hooiveld that made
his in a 1-0 win against Hamilton in today's SPL match at New Douglas Park.
It was another new signing that scored the only goal of the game as Morten
Rasmussen scored his first goal for the Celts. The Danish striker was a
64th minute sub and had only been on the park for 3 minutes when he turned
in the box and sent a shot past Cerny in the Hamilton goal. Click this
to see the programme,
ticket and match stats.
BLACKBURN ROVERS FRIENDLY - 21/01/10
No programme for the closed-doors friendly match against Blackburn Rovers at their training ground today. New signings Jos Hooiveld and Thomas Rogne played in a match the Celtic XI won 2-1. James Forrest and Paul McGowan scored for the Celts. Read a match report.
FALKIRK SPL20 - 16/01/10
20
year old South Korean internationalist midfielder Ki Sung Yong made his
debut as a Celtic player in today's 1-1 draw with Falkirk in the SPL. Falkirk
took the lead in the 17th minute when Carl Finnigan brushed off a challenge
from Darren O'Dea to shoot past Artur Boruc. Georgios Samaras equalised
for Celtic five minutes from half-time but they couldn't find the killer
goal in the second-half to get all three points. Rangers scraped a victory
at Hamilton in the early kick-off match and are now 9 points ahead of Celtic
at the top of the league. Celtic have a game in hand but with a goal-shy
attack and dodgy defence any comeback will need a metamorphic change for
this Celtic team. Click this to see the programme
and match stats.
SCOTTISH CUP FREEZE - 06/01/10
So much for global warming !!! Celtic's 4th round Scottish Cup tie with Morton at a frozen Cappielow Park has been called off. According to the SFA Web there will be another pitch inspection on Monday 11th to establish if the tie will go ahead on Tuesday 12th January. That will give everybody time to make arrangements then. Not. It's time for Summer football.
RANGERS SPL19 - 03/01/10
Celtic dominated the match at Celtic Park today but were unable to get a win. Click this to see the programme, teamsheet and match stats.
DECEMBER 2009
KILMARNOCK SPL18 - 30/12/09
The
SPL match with Kilmarnock today was postponed due to bad weather. Kilmarnock
had already printed a programme but have not yet made a decision on whether
to reprint for the rescheduled match on Wednesday 20th January or issue
the original with an insert. Click this to see the
match programme.
.HAMILTON ACCIES SPL17 - 26/12/09
Celtic
made hard work of beating Hamilton today but eventually managed a 2-0 win.
Glenn Loovens and Niall McGinn scored the goals. Click this to see the programme,
ticket, teamsheet and match stats.
CHELSEA FRIENDLY - 21/12/09
Celtic reserves played Chelsea reserves in a friendly match in Glasgow on Monday. Neil Lennon's Under 19's along with five first team reserves beat the London club 5-3. Carlo Ancelotti and Ray Wilkins watched the match with Tony Mowbray from the Celtic Park stand. Chelsea scored first through Conor Clifford, were soon 5-1 down at one point but eventually pulled it back to 5-3 with goals from Gael Kakuta and Josh McEachran. Paul McGowan (2), Graham Carey, Zheng Zhi, and Josh Thompson were on target for the hOOps. The match was played behind closed doors so no programme. Click here for the match stats.
.HEARTS SPL16 - 20/12/09
Celtic
lost 2-1 to Hearts at Tynecastle today to go four points behind Rangers
in the league championship. It all started well when the Celts went ahead
through Georgios Samaras but it all went wrong when Gary Caldwell tripped
Mole in the box after a mistake by Loovens had let the ball run through
to the Hearts man. Caldwell got his marching orders and Stewart scored
past the Holy Goalie to even up the score. Tony Mowbray then sacrificed
Crosas to bring on McManus and shifted the rest of the team around when
he could have just hooked Scott McDonald and minimised the changes to the
team formation. Hearts were never on top but scored another goal through
Bouzid. Click this for the
programme, ticket and match stats.
.SK RAPID VIENNA EUROPA LEAGUE - 17/12/09
Cheats, Liars, Conmen. To everybody else, Rapid Vienna. Celtic had to come back from 3-0 down in Vienna tonight to get a draw and hand Rapid the wooden spoon for Group D. CLC went 1-0 up in 35 seconds and added another two by the nineteenth minute. Marco Fortune then showed why Tony Mowbray spent all his money on the striker by scoring twice to bring it back to 3-2 before Paul McGowan equalised with his first competative goal for the Celts big team. CLC issued a free programme. Click at this to see the programme and match stats.
MOTHERWELL SPL15 - 12/12/09
It
was four wins in a row for Tony Mowbray as Celtic beat Motherwell at Fir
Park today. The final score was 3-2 but Celtic were more in command of
the game than the score suggests. It could have been 6 but the Hoops had
to settle for three excellent goals from Samaras, McGeady and second-half
sub Marco Fortune. Barry Robson missed another penalty after argueing with
Samaras and Crosas about who should take it and Aiden McGeady's goal was
Celtic's 1000th in the SPL. Click at this to see the
programme, ticket and match stats.
NOVEMBER 2009
ST MIRREN SPL13 - 28/11/09
After
Rangers had been beaten 1-0 by Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the early kick-off
match, Celtic had a chance to get back to the top of the SPL with a win
over St Mirren at Celtic Park today. Scott McDonald scored another brace
and South Africa bound Georgios Samaras hit the other in a 3-1 victory.

ticket and match stats.
OCTOBER 2009
DEDICATED TO A HERO OF WWI - WILLIAM ANGUS V.C.
William
Angus VC is the most famous son of Carluke, a small town in Lanarkshire,
Scotland. On leaving school he was employed as a miner, but escaped the
rigours of that work when his soccer abilities led to him joining Glasgow
Celtic as a professional footballer. As he struggled to gain a place in
the strong Celtic team of that time, his sporting days were interrupted
by the outbreak of war.
William Angus won the Victoria Cross for valour when saving a fellow soldier under almost unbelievable danger and this Web site is dedicated to his memory. Click here or at the image on the left to learn more about our very own war hero.
KILMARNOCK SPL10 - 31/10/09
A
3-0 win against Kilmarnock today kept Celtic at the top of the SPL, three
points in front of second place Hibernian. Aiden McGeady, Georgios Samaras
and Naill McGinn scored in an entertaining match wathed by a crowd of 46,000.
Click this link for the
programme, teams and match stats.
CLIFTONVILLE FRIENDLY - 13/10/09
A strong Celtic team were beaten 3-0 by Cliftonville in Belfast on Tuesday night. The match was arranged to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Cliftonville F.A.C. and to officially open the new changing facilities at Solitude.Celtic played a bunch of first team fringe players including Zheng Zhi, Marc Crosas, Barry Robson and Koki Mizuno but they failed to impress manager Tony Mowbray. Mowbray interviewed for the Cliftonville Website said "... the result leaves a little niggle in my stomach and I'll want some revenge in the future." A special commerative programme was issued that you can buy online at the Cliftonville Website. Click here to see the programme and match stats.
ALTERNATIVE VIEW ISSUE 99 - 09/10/09
Issue
99 of the Alternative View Celtic fanzine is out for subscribers and will
be on sale at the next Celtic home match. The magazine, reborn as a cut
down 50p version of it's former self in August
2007, is
now 40 glossy pages for £2. It's the best Celtic
read around at the moment and that's saying something considering the number
of excellent Celtic related fanzines on the go. Click here to see
the current issue.
SEPTEMBER 2009
HEARTS SPL5 - 20/09/09
For
the second week in a row Rangers drew their match and gave Celtic a chance
to go top of the SPL. This time Celtic accepted the offer by beating Hearts
at Celtic Park but left it late with a 93rd minute winner from Glen Loovens
that made it 2-1. Three points means that Celtic leapfrog Rangers into
top spot and let's hope they stay there until the end of the season. Click
this for the
programme, ticket, teamsheet and match stats.
P.S. if you want to know who is definitely not in the team on match days just buy yourself a programme to see the player on the front cover. Landry N'Guemo was there for the St Johnstone issue, not in the team. Paul Caddis was next to go on the Dundee United issue and today it was Georgios Samaras' turn for the kiss of death. Who do you want on the next one?
.HAPOEL TEL-AVIV EUROPA LEAGUE 17/09/09
No programme issued for the match in Tel-Aviv. Click here for the stats.
.DUNDEE UNITED SPL4 - 12/09/09
Celtic
failed to take advantage of Rangers' draw in the early kick-off at Fir
Park today. A defensive formation from the manager and disappointing play
by the players produced a 1-1 draw with Dundee United. United scored first
in 6 minutes, McDonald equalised 11 minutes later and that was it. Click
this for the match
stats, programme, ticket and teamsheet.
.ALTERNATIVE VIEW - 11/09/09
Subscribers
to the Alternative View Celtic fanzine got a wee surprise when Issue 98
of AV dropped through the letter box this morning. The mag has gone glossy
again and brought the price inline with other fanzines at £2. The
better quality production is bigger with more pages and new features. On
the negative side we will now have to wait a month between issues, dissappointing
because fanzines like AV are about the only way you ever read the truth
about Celtic Football Club. Click
this to see the front cover of issue 98.
CORK CITY FRIENDLY - 09/09/09
Celtic
beat Cork City 1-0 with a Paddy McCourt goal in Wednesday night's friendly
match at Turner's Cross stadium. Barry Robson returned from his long-term
injury in a team of first team fringe players and youths. Cork City issued
a match programme that is on sale at their Website
shop. Click this for the programme
and match stats.

A young Celtic team were beaten 1-3 by SL Benfica of Portugal in the CNE Cup in Toronto on Wednesday night. The match was played as part of the annual Canadian National Exhibition of 2009, the winners receiving the CNE Cup. Celtic had 13 international players missing to World Cup duty and played the game with two first team regulars and a mixture of reserve and youth players. Benfica also had internationals missing but had a few of their 'big guns' playing as well.No programme issued because there wasn't enough time between the match being confirmed and played. Click this for the teams, scorers and other stats from the SL Benfica v Celtic CNE Cup match.

UEFA have changed the name but not the trophy. This season's winners will be presented with the same Bertoni trophy that was created by the Bertoni workshops in Milan for the 1972 final and won by Shakhtar Donetsk when they defeated Werder Bremen 2-1 in Istanbul in the last ever EUFA Cup Final in season 2008/2009.

ARSENAL FC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 18/08/09
Celtic
were defeated 2-0 by Arsenal in tonight's Champions League Play-off 1st
leg match at Celtic Park. Although they had the majority of the possession
a deflection off Gallas and a Gary Caldwell own goal gives Celtic virtually
no chance to qualify for the Group stage. Click this for the match
programme, ticket, teamsheet and match stats.
JULY 2009
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR WEMBLEY CUP 26/07/09
Celtic
won the first ever Wembley Cup with this 2-0 victory, ending top of the
league with 6 points with Barcelona 4, Spurs 1 and Al-Ahly 0. Darren O'Dea
captained Celtic and walked up the Wembley stairs to collect the trophy.
Danny Fox made his starting debut. This time he had his name and number
11 on the hOOps. Tony Mowbray made 10 changes from the team that beat Al-Ahly
5-0 two days earlier. Only Glenn Loovens kept
his place. Celtic off to a great start when Chris Killen scored the first
with a header from a Paul Caddis cross in 9 minutes. Celtic are well on
top when Georgios Samaras picks up the ball, just inside his own half.
He skinned Dorian Dervite and raced towards the Spurs goal before shooting
across the Spurs goalie and into the opposite corner of the goal. 2-0 Celtic.
The highlight of the second-half was a Paddy McCourt dribbled past five
Spurs defenders into the box but clipped his shot just past the post. Click here

lead story. New signings Lukasz Zaluska and Marc-Antoine Fortune and Mowbray's

ALTERNATE VIEW ISSUE 94 11/07/09
The
first issue of Alternative VIEW for
season 2009/2010 is out. Issue 94 of the fortnightly Celtic fanzine uses
the front cover of the mag to welcome Tony Mowbray to Celtic and pleads "Please
don't be a yes man". Inside, we hear how Bobo is considering
taking Celtic to court to recover unpaid wages, the name-on-strip scandal
at the Celtic Superstore as they turn away a young fan who wanted Zaluska's
name on the back of his shirt - they had never heard of him! Candidates
for the Celtic captaincy are discussed and did you know that Celtic let
Naka go on a free so he could return to his family in Japan but, instead,
he's signed a 2 year contract with Espanyol in Spain. Click this to see Alternative
View Issue 94 or this to see every
issue of the fanzine since it started in March 2002.

The
Summer issue of cult Celtic fanzine The Celt is

it's 25th year in print last season. Click this link to see the current
issue or this for every

.CELTIC PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY FIXTURES
Celtic have already arranged a number of friendlies before the start of next season. First up is a tribute match for the family of the late Tommy Burns, the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust charity established by Tommy's daughters and the Celtic Charity Fund. The match between the Celtic first team and a TB select will kick-off at 2pm on 31st May at Celtic Park.
Next, it's a home match for Scott McDonald as Celtic go down under to play a friendly against the Hyundai A-League team Brisbane Roar in Queensland, Australia. That game will be played at the new Suncorp Stadium at 3pm on Sunday, July 12. The match will decide the winner of this year’s TransLink Cup, the centrepiece of the Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign presented by Brisbane Roar and the Queensland Government, through Multicultural Affairs Queensland.
On Wednesday, July 22, Celtic travel to Wales to play Cardiff City with a kick-off time of 7.45pm for the official opening of the new Cardiff City Stadium.
Celtic travel to London to play in the inaugural Wembley Cup. Their opponents at Wembley Stadium will be Al Ahly, 5-in-a-row winners of the Egyptian premier league on Friday, July 24 and then Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, July 26. The tournament will be decided on points and total goals scored. You can get tickets for the Celtic matches at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
Two days after Celtic play in the Wembley Cup they will compete in the Third Qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Although all of the possible opponents are not yet known, Celtic will be drawn against Dinamo Moscow (3rd in Russia) or one of the teams that came second in the leagues of Romania, Portugal, Holland, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, Greece or the Czeck Republic. The two-legged matches take place on July 28/29 and August 4/5. If Celtic manage to win that one, they will then take part in the UEFA's new Play-off round, another two-legged tie with the prize of competing in the Group stage.
