REPRINTED ISSUES
2007
The two magazines below were first published by the Weekly News in celebration of Celtic winning the 1965/66 Scottish League Championship (Into Europe as Champions) and the amazing victory in Lisbon the following season (Year of Triumph). Into Europe as Champions was issued in the Summer of 1966 and Year of Triumph was sold about one year later. The originals cost 2 shilling and sixpence - two and six - for the 66 issue and the 67 one cost a shilling more. They are similar in style with 40 pages full of stunning phototraphy and articles with the Year of Triumph issue taking up the story where the previous issue had left it - what an ending! This year, in the 40th anniversary of the Lisbon triumph, Celtic fan, Frank Creighton of Hebridean Images, contacted the original owners DC Thomson & Co., Ltd. to ask permission to reprint the magazines and, surprisingly, they said yes. Frank runs a company called "Hebridean Images" and a Web site where he recounts some of his memories of those distant days of glory. "As a wide-eyed eight year old I vividly remember the 25th of May 1967, watching the final live on our 14” grainy black and white television. The outer casing of this T.V. was as big as a washing machine – but the sound and picture quality were awful. On my lap throughout the game was a booklet that had come out the previous summer entitled “Into Europe as Champions”. It was full of vibrant coloured photos of my heroes – the same heroes whose live-pictures looked as though they were being beamed directly from the moon. We were about to do the unthinkable… win the European Cup. Final whistle and people were out on the street mayhem…sweet mayhem"
If you want to buy a copy of the reprints you can get them at WH Smith or buy them online from the Hebridean Images Web site at -
